National Tour 2008-09

"The story was told beautifully,
I found it inspiring and exciting..."
Audience Feedback

The Middle Yard is an evening of storytelling and music created and performed by Nick Hennessey and Simon Heywood, based on the Irish tale The Fate of the Sons of Turenn.

The first performance of The Middle Yard took place at the National Centre for Early Music in York on Saturday 12 April, 2008 The story tells of the god-like hero Lugh's coming of age as he becomes a master of all crafts and leader of his people.  Parallel with this journey towards greatness, Lugh is drawn to power and war as he tackles division amongst his own people and confronts the murderous Sons of Turenn.

This inspiring evening of storytelling and song is touring to venues all around the country from Autumn 2008, in a tour supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. The tour visits literature festivals and arts centres, theatres, village halls and storytelling events.
