National Tour 2006 - 2007
The Story
The story tells how one of
Ireland’s greatest heroes, Lugh Lamfhota, came to be born. The
tyrant
Balor is cursed by a prophecy that if his
daughter Ethlin has a son, the child will
cause Balor’s downfall. Balor locks her in
a tower on the headland, attended only
by women with strict orders not to admit
any men. But he doesn’t count on the
cunning of the secretive hag Birog, or
young Cian, keeper of the Grey Kye,
greatest of all the cattle in the field…
The storytellers weave the tale in between
nine original songs, played on harp and
guitar and sung as solos, duos and
quartets. Whether or not you’ve seen
storytelling before, this is your chance to
experience it at its best. Full of humour,
drama and rich textures of story and
music, this story will stay in your
imagination long after you’ve heard it.The Twisting Field is an
evening of storytelling and song, a nineteenth century folktale
which fills in a gap in the manuscripts
Join Shonaleigh, Nick
Hennessey, Amy Douglas and Simon Heywood for an evening of
storytelling and song bringing to life the tale of Lugh Lamfhota,
one of Ireland's greatest heroes.
