Adverse Camber, Storytelling, The Old Woman, Workshops

Adverse Camber is celebrating National Storytelling Week this week, announcing a brand new tour of The Old Woman, the Buffalo and the Lion of Manding in March, hot on the heels of a fantastic sell-out show for The Shahnameh at Cambridge Junction with Cambridge Storytellers this weekend.
The Old Woman, the Buffalo and the Lion of Manding features one of the world’s leading storytellers, Jan Blake and two exceptional West African born musicians, Kouame Sereba and Raymond Sereba. They’re on the road with Adverse Camber from Thursday 10 – Tuesday 22 March 2016 sharing an epic tale from Mali in a performance filled with dynamic, passionate storytelling, songs and music. The show was such a success when it toured in 2013 that, in true storytelling fashion, word has spread, with venues and audiences asking when and where they will be able to catch this powerful and uplifting show again.

We visit six venues on this tour from Margate in the South right up to the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow as part of the Village Storytelling Festival, taking in Wolverhampton, Oxford, Manchester and London’s Canada Water Culture Space on the way. The tour includes two free West African singing workshops with all three artists at The British Museum on Thursday 17 March, 3-4pm and at Theatre Royal Margate, ahead of the performance, from 11am-12 noon on Saturday 19 March.

“We are thrilled to share The Old Woman, the Buffalo and the Lion of Manding with six new venues across the UK. Nearly all of these venues are new to Adverse Camber shows so it’s especially exciting to bring this fantastic example of UK storytelling at its best to more people. The singing workshops are a perfect taster for what you will experience during the show – a chance to enjoy the richness of West African storytelling traditions, where music, song, movement and story blend beautifully and seamlessly together. The show is created and performed by three amazing artists who instantly connect with audiences to produce a really memorable experience! Naomi Wilds, Producer, Adverse Camber
