Derbyshire Moon Landing memories

In celebration of the 50 year anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing in 2019, we started a National Lottery Heritage Fund project to collect Derbyshire people’s memories of that historic occasion.

Recorded memories would be archived at the Derbyshire Record office for future generations to witness the impact this pivotal moment had on people living in this county.

If you work with a young person that is interested in the Moon, space, astronomy or hearing the stories of older people they know*, please get in touch with us and we can help you learn more about collecting people’s memories.

Through this work, young people can learn valuable skills and a better understanding of heritage, oral history and storytelling as well as creating an important and engaging archive of material for people to enjoy for generations to come.

*if you think there are other topics that would also be interesting to the young people you work with, we’d love to hear from you!

You can listen to one of the Moon Landing memory interviews from our session at Derby Cathedral on 28/9/19.
