Oversetts Commission, South Derbyshire, the National Forest

We have been awarded a commission by the National Forest to work with Storyteller Pyn Stockman, musician Ann Jones and sound artist Marc Reck to run a creative learning project based at Oversetts Community Woodland, Swandlincote with a focus on wildlife, the seasons and growing.

From April until July 2024 Pyn and Ann will be co-creating with children and teachers from Fairmeadows Primary School to respond to their inspiration and engagement in the surrounding woodlands. The overall aim, as well as inspire the next generations of storytellers, is to nurture a longer-term care for the woodlands.

They will weave into their delivery themes of climate action and environmental responsibility and planting and caring for the woodlands. Using a frame story, inspired by the project aims, Pyn and Ann will hold space for the children’s ideas and responses, and build towards a live
sharing of new stories and music which the children and teachers help to co-create.

The children’s creations will be audio recorded and made available via QR codes, possibly printed onto seed paper and shared within the woodland itself.

We will be sharing more about this project over the next few weeks on our social media channels and emails
