Fire in the North Sky: Epic Tales from Finland

With Nick Hennessey, Anna-Kaisa Liedes, Kristiina Ilmonen and Timo Väänänen

Full of songs and stories from the Fire in the North Sky: Epic Tales from Finland live performance. The CD recording captures the improvisational qualities of the source material and rewards repeated listening. It includes characters, songs and episodes performed on recent tours, such as the Firespell (Tulen synty in Finnish), the story of Väinämöinen searching for the sleeping singer Antero Vipunen, the Bride of Gold and Silver and, memorably, the making of the Sampo. Plus there are new snippets and improvised sections, from a beautiful runolaulu of the beginning of the world, sung by Anna-Kaisa to the evocative story of Aino's transformation into a fish.

Arash Moradi is the son of the legendary Ali Akbar Moradi, the most renowned tanbour master of our time. For Arash, the Yaresan tanbour tradition is his soul and London is his home. Arash is now presenting his own composition work whilst keeping his tradition, building a bridge between his life and experience in the West. This CD is a musical arrangement that focuses on the tanbour - its modes, techniques and sounds - and is composed of different chapters where the old tanbour maqam patterns remain strong and you can still sense the vapours of Shalaan River!

Ffynnon - Adar Gwylltion

Stacey Blythe & Lynne Denman

"I bought the first album by Ffynon and quickly fell in love with it. I was searching out my Welsh roots at the time (grandmother Mary Emma Lloyd) and it really struck me in the music of this group. I was excited when I found the second album available and have again loved it. The music is adventuresome and deep. Lynne Denman's vocals are easy to love but everyone contributes so much!
