Fire in the North Sky - Seven Date UK Tour Announced

Adverse Camber is delighted to announce 2015 tour dates for its brand new show, Fire in the North Sky: Epic Tales from Finland, an international collaboration featuring an outstanding ensemble of artists including leading UK storyteller, Nick Hennessey and three of Finland’s best folk musicians - Anna-Kaisa Liedes (singer), Kristiina Ilmonen (flutes, percussion, vocals) and Timo Väänänen (kantele – Finland’s national instrument – and pyngyr or Siberian lyre). The show will visit seven venues across England and Wales between 2 – 10 October 2015. Venues for this tour include co-commissioning partner mac birmingham, prestige music venues Sage Gateshead, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Wiltshire Music Centre and high profile festivals - Ilkley Literature Festival and Derby Folk Festival. “It’s rare to hear Kalevala stories performed live, so to experience them with the beautiful soundscapes these musicians create is really special. The performance blends invention and tradition in surprising and engaging ways, tapping into Nordic perspectives with a real sense of fun as well as depth and intimacy. This new tour is Adverse Camber’s largest scale project to date and is part of a three-year programme of new shows and tours being supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring programme.  Featuring original work by world-class musicians and the UK’s very best storytellers, the three-year programme shines new light on epic Finnish, African, Welsh and Persian mythology, touring these works to an expanding network of rural and urban venues across England and Wales.
