Through our projects, Adverse Camber works with individuals and communities to delve deeper into stories that matter and that need to be heard.

Each project starts with the community we’re working with, creating shared goals and aspirations.  Like all good stories, there are many beginnings, middles and ends and some twists and turns as we create together.  We might be supporting young people to create their own visions of the future.  Or working through a blend of languages to tell stories from across our diverse communities.  Some projects link into celebrations of our heritage and history. Others into the multi-layered present, exploring people’s real lives and the extraordinary stories of lived experience. We connect with partners, adding our story expertise to their own. Our projects happen locally and regionally, in our home of Derbyshire and the Midlands, nationally across the UK and internationally.

Story making builds self-confidence and creative imaginative potential, nurturing well being and empathy. It leads to stronger communities who understand each other’s stories, bringing people together to foster togetherness, agency and hope.

All our projects help us to understand the story work that’s needed, now and into the future. Our projects help to guide the work we do supporting storytellers and practitioners and informs the stories we create, produce and tour.

Taking part in Our Stories has improved my confidence, I’ve made friends, gained a Discover Arts Award, and learned how to make a podcast. I got to meet a lot of new people, and I basically got to have fun!

J is very positive about all your sessions and is making a real effort to make sure he is ready. For example he has been waiting at his laptop for his session to start. This is fantastic for J who often avoids activity he doesn't like, so you are all providing engaging activity that is clearly meeting his needs on a number of levels.

The project gave YPX an individual voice, a chance to shape the project and the work. A sense of ownership and a chance to practice all of the skills that she is gathering in everything she has done and still does.

Taking part in Our Stories helped me to feel more confident. I get a bit of stage fright, but the workshops and artists helped me gain that confidence. After I went up on stage, I felt fine. This was a new skill I learned, as I would probably never do that unless I was pushed, but this time I volunteered.
