A Great Boost for Storytelling with Adverse Camber's Three Year Arts Council England Award!

Adverse Camber has some brilliant news as we end 2014 and head into 2015 - Arts Council England has made a significant award to Adverse Camber from its Strategic Touring Fund.  This award supports a three year touring programme of a number of shows that draw from Finnish, African, Welsh and Persian mythology, teaming world-class musicians together with leading UK storytellers. This means that over the next three years, Adverse Camber will bring a regular programme of the high quality, epic storytelling and music productions that audiences have come to expect to an expanding network of rural and urban venues right across England and into Wales. Storytelling has received a great boost - Adverse Camber can develop and bring fantastic epic storytelling productions to existing, new and wider audiences. Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “The aim of the Arts Council’s Strategic Touring fund is to give more people the opportunity to get involved with great artistic and cultural activities close to where they live. We are delighted to be supporting Adverse Camber’s Epic Storytelling and Music tours, which promise to bring entertaining and imaginative performances produced in partnership with some of the UK’s leading storytellers and musicians to audiences throughout the Midlands and beyond.” Adverse Camber’s touring programme will begin in October 2015 with audiences being transported to the extremes of the Finnish landscape - the harshness of winter and the intoxicating summers, in Fire in the North Sky: Epic Tales from Finland (Saatuja Sanoja).  The Old Woman, the Buffalo and the Lion of Manding, which draws on African mythology, will also tour in October 2015. We would like to thank Arts Council England for this real vote of confidence in our work and for recognising the important role that storytelling has to play in people’s lives today.  We would also like to say a sincere thank you to all the artists we’ve worked with, as well as our hard working creative teams and venue partners, especially mac Birmingham, Derby LIVE, Lincoln Drill Hall, Sage Gateshead, the Albany, Beyond the Border Storytelling Festival and rural touring organisations in the South West, who have enabled so much of our recent work to happen. And of course a massive thank you to everyone who has come to see our shows, we look forward to enjoying more great storytelling and music together from 2015 onwards! Have a really happy festive season and see you all next year!
