Gazing

A series of stories to illuminate your summer nights

GAZING, our online series of storytelling and stargazing moments that illuminated you summer nights. It’s about looking up and out, to the stars, the Moon, perhaps even into the future…

After 10 weeks, 18 episodes, 2 workshops and 1 livestreamed event, we looked at the stars through the twin lenses of story and science, journeyed together and saw how constellations and celestial bodies have inspired our myths and ignited our sense of adventure.

Our GAZING journey was launched with a story from Giovanna Conforto, recorded in Italy, musing on the possible beginnings of human relationships between stories and stars and ended with a livestream event with Tim Ralphs, sharing stories so old the skies have shifted since human beings first told them, as we may all look a little differently at the shared Earth beneath our feet.

We featured 11 storytellers including many of the world’s very best – Giovanna Conforto, Rachel Murray, Maria Whatton, Sally Pomme Clayton, Peter Chand, Emma White, Anne E Stewart, Xanthe Gresham Knight, Clare Murphy, Jan Blake and Tim Ralphs. Two scientists – Nick Spall and Liz Landau, plus our own Participation Associate, Jan Reynolds and a gorgeous story sent in by audience members – Tony Jones and Sue Watts.

We sprinkled your summer months with storytelling and stargazing moments and invited you to look up, look out and even to the future!

Don’t worry if you missed out on any of the episodes, nearly all of them are still available to enjoy - check out the whole playlist on our YouTube channel and please share the love for storytelling with your friends!
