Scientific Stories about the Stars

Here is a sample of some of the scientific stories explored by the group in the project

Big Bang – the beginnings of the universe

The Big Bang is a theory that attempts to explain how the universe developed from a very tiny, dense state into what it is today.  We are developing a soundscape to replicate this idea!

Mirror Particles and Quantum Entanglement

Entanglement occurs when a pair of particles, such as photons, interact physically.

In quantum physics, entangled particles remain connected so that actions performed on one affect the other, even when separated by great distances. The phenomenon so riled Albert Einstein he called it “spooky action at a distance.”

‘From the calcium in our bones…’

This spoken piece is a quote by Margherita Hack, known as the “Lady of the Stars”, who was a leading Italian astrophysicist.

For decades, science popularisers have said humans are made of stardust, and now, a new survey of 150,000 stars shows just how true the old cliché is.  Humans and their galaxy have about 97 percent of the same kind of atoms, and the elements of life appear to be more prevalent toward the galaxy’s centre, the research found.
