Story Roots

Storytelling in care homes across Derbyshire

In partnership with Derbyshire County Council’s The Virtual School, Adverse Camber ran a project exploring stories with young people and staff at care homes across Derbyshire. Storyteller Christine McMahon started visiting homes to tell and listen to stories with young people and staff in April 2015.

Christine McMahon, based in Hebden Bridge, is well known across UK storytelling for the warmth and wit of her stories, including her fantastic Festival at the Edge 2011 commission, Goosewing, and her many years of experience working with stories and young people, as well as her work with restorative justice. The Story Roots project was coordinated by our Participation Associate, Jan Reynolds.

Following the success of this first work partnering storytelling in a care home setting, we went on to develop the Stars and Stories project and more.
