VÅR: the story of Hervor

A live, online event livestreamed directly from a Norwegian laftehus.

We were delighted to present a one-off, livestreamed performance of VÅR: the story of Hervor on Saturday 19 February 2022 with our co-hosts Carn to Cove, Cornwall’s performing arts scheme for rural communities. The show was also presented as part of Beyond the Border's digital festival in 2021.

Escape to the Nordic lands, to discover an intimate, livestreamed storytelling event, broadcast live from a beautiful laftehus in a Norwegian forest. This one-hour live, online performance includes a wrap around immersive storytelling experience with an audio prologue & epilogue and post-show Zoom Q&A with the artists.

From the quest for a cursed sword buried deep within the earth, to waiting on a platform in Paris, being watched by a stranger… VÅR blends the ancient Norse saga of Hervor with autobiography, oral storytelling and electroacoustic music, in a captivating exploration of memory, loss, power, war and identity.

Growing up, every Friday at school, Heidi Dahslveen was told stories about the great Norse Kings. But not once did she hear a story about a woman …

Shining a light on an almost forgotten Norse saga of a Viking warrior woman, VÅR is created and performed by two outstanding Norwegian artists – storyteller, Mimesis Heidi Dahlsveen and composer and musician, Kristin Bolstad broadcast live from a beautiful log cabin, through the magic of digital connection.

Discover a space where ancient and contemporary stories interlace, filled with striking original music, and be part of an unforgettable online storytelling experience.

Suitable for ages 12+
Please be aware the performance contains material that talks about domestic and sexual violence, war and personal loss.
