Bags of Help for Children's Homes Project

Stars and Stories:

Over the last two years Adverse Camber has been piloting a project with Derbyshire Virtual School in which storyteller Christine McMahon has been visiting Children’s Homes across the county, dropping in to share and hear stories with community artist Jan Reynolds. With input from a group of young artists, the project has now grown into a proposed year long project on the theme of Stars and Stories involving children, young people, carers, support staff and foster families across the county. Storyteller, writer and director Maria Whatton will team up with space journalist, astronomer and Royal Astronomical Society fellow, Nick Spall to provide inspirational storytelling and stargazing sessions, leading towards the creation of a brand new performance for Wirksworth Festival in 2018. Traditional oral stories are timeless and like the stars in the night sky, they are constant and consistent, something that children and young people in care may not have in their lives.  We hope that this project will provide support and inspiration, and you can help make sure it all happens! Stars and Stories project has been selected for the Tesco Bags of Help Grant Scheme, which means that in certain Tesco stores* in Derbyshire, you will be able to vote for our Stars and Stories project every time you shop (you receive a token per transaction which you may need to ask for), helping us win the top grant prize of £4,000.  Voting closes on Tuesday 31 October 2017, the winners will be announced at the end of November, we would love to have your support! *Participating stores are: Tesco Express, Alton Manor, Belper DE56 0HS Tesco Extra, Ilkeston, DE7 8DG Tesco Express, Codnor, DE5 9QR Tesco Express, Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, DE7 5NX Tesco Express, Nottingham Road, Eastwood, NG16 3GL Tesco Express, West Hallam, DE7 6GR Photograph taken during a Derbyshire Virtual School visit to see Dreaming the Night Field at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, courtesy Chris Webb Photography.
