Showcase success at Tapton Lock

The ‘Our Stories, Our Places, Our Futures’ storytelling ensemble really knocked it out of the park for last weekend’s Tapton Lock Festival.

The ensemble of young people from North East Derbyshire and 4 storytelling artists have been working together since May, including a week-long residency at Bolsover Castle, to put together a very special showcase of performance and public activities for the Festival.

The set of photographs at the bottom of the page really say it all, there was story-making using bespoke cards illustrated by the group, and a whole showcase of performances developed throughout the project. The audience were invited to share their greatest treasure in exchange for a ‘piece of gold’. It was such a wonderful day and we’re so proud of all the young people involved.

Take a look here to find some of the resources from the project – listen to the podcast, stories and poems made by the group, and download the story cards to make your very own stories. And look out for a short film of the project coming soon!

Huge thanks to Aly Stoneman & Jane Wells for all their hard work managing the project and the four artists who brought so much skill and joy – Aoife O’Connor, Beccy Dye, Lewis Doherty and Maria Whatton. As well as visiting visual artists Lucie Maycock and INSTAR.

Our Stories, Our Places, Our Futures has been run in partnership with Junction Arts and supported by Arts Council England & Foundation Derbyshire with thanks also to West Studios and Bolsover Castle.
