The perfect start for Moon Stories!

Our first day of collecting Derbyshire people's Moon Landing memories during September's Derby Festé was the perfect way to kick off our Moon Stories project!

Under the gaze of the Museum of the Moon and literally 1000s of visitors to Derby Cathedral (over 40,000 in total!), we met loads of great people wanting to share their Moon Landing memories including Neil Ferguson-Lee, Director of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, Aidan Shingler from the StarDisc and a whole posse from Derby and Derbyshire Astronomical Society, the perfect group to show people exactly where the Apollo 11 mission landed!

Throughout the day we discovered some amazing artefacts including a book signed by Buzz Aldrin, learned some incredibly valuable new skills, heard some Moon-inspired poetry and took some time out to enjoy more of Derby Festé!

There'll be plenty more to come for this project over the coming year, thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Foundation Derbyshire, the Royal Astronomical Society, East Midlands Oral History Archive, Derbyshire Records Office and Scopes4SEN.

Take a look at some of the great pictures we took throughout our day at Derby Cathedral...
